Foster with us:
Becoming a foster family is the single greatest gift you can offer a rescue. We could be
the richest rescue in the states, have all the supplies we could dream of, but it would not
help if we did not have you. All of the dogs that are entering rescue must have a home
to stay in until they are adopted.

What to expect if you become a foster family?
Foster families can expect the dog to stay from 1 day, to several months. Younger dogs
tend to be adopted quickly. Seniors dogs take a bit longer. At the Oregon German
Shepherd Rescue we will support you with food, and a crate if needed. We pay for all
vet care. Vet appointments must be pre approved, and taken to our vet. Oregon
German Shepherd Rescue will match you with a dog that is at your skill level. You can
terminate the foster placement at any time.

Why do rescues need foster families?
Our dogs may need placement into a foster home for a variety of reasons. Many times
dogs are placed into rescue because they need more socialization, have medical
issues, they may need rehabilitation, be to young, to old, or the owner just needs to
place them as soon as possible.

Can you adopt a dog you are fostering?
Yes. This is known as failing foster care. Many times the first dog that is fostered is
adopted by the foster. As long as you are providing the proper care, you are able to fill
out an application, and become the dogs new owner. Many times the foster parent will
find an adopter for the dog. It is important to remember that all interested parties must
fill out an application, and meet criteria.

How do we become a foster parent?
If you are interested in becoming a foster parent, please fill out a foster application. If
you have questions, you can e-mail paula@oregongsd.org.
