Fresno has a big fan in Maryland! Check out this loot of toys and goodies that was sent to
him. This will make his recovery much more enjoyable and give him something to do while
he lays around to heal! Thank you Mark and Mary!

This just in:

The vet just finished the surgery, and took new x-rays. Fresno had multiple surgical experts
on this case. By the estimate of the surgeons, they feel that Fresno’s injuries are older than
we thought. He has massive callus build up, that had to be dealt with. They said his little
body was working overtime trying to heal itself.

Today they did repair the femur (right side) and the Pelvis / hip on the right side. The pelvis
actually had FOUR fractures just on that side. He has seven screws in the femur, and I did
not get a lot of information on the hardware for the pelvis. They said Fresno will require
LOTS of physical therapy.

They are going to repair the left side TOMORROW!! That side seems much worse. The
vets say he will definitely develop arthritis.

Over all the vet says “He has every opportunity for an EXCELLENT QUALITY OF LIFE”. As
I see it, in his past circumstances, it appears he had no chance of any, quality of life. Now
he has an excellent chance. That has to put a smile on your face!!

All ofyour thoughts, prayers, and well wishes, were heard and answered. One more day of
this, and it is all about the healing.

The Oregon German Shepherd Rescue would also like to acknowledge the Pet Medical
Center and Spa of Fresno for the original treatment and supportive care of Fresno. They
have been a big promoter of donations, and services.

Also, for their endless hours of buffing vehicles we thank Janice, Carly, Kathy, Jana, and
their friends and family.Click on the pictures to the left to enlarge them and see the action!

Fresno came to the attention of the Oregon German Shepherd Rescue through a posting in
www.germanshepherds.com. A member, found an ad on Craigslist, which told a sad, and
unbelievable story.

Little Fresno had been lying along the road side for several days, thought to be dead. He
had a broken femur, pelvis and had been shot and left for dead. To the surprise of the
finder, he was not dead, but injured and suffering.

The finder took Fresno for an evaluation, and received the staggering quote of
$4000.00-$6000.00. Imagine her sadness, knowing she would not be able to make such a
financial commitment.

She posted a plea for help, and that is where we came in.

The Oregon German Shepherd Rescue, and Indigo Rescue knew someone must help, so
we jumped into action. Oregon German Shepherd Rescue had him flown from Fresno, CA,
to Portland, Oregon. From there he went directly to the vet clinic to start his treatment plan.
What happened after that was nothing short of a miracle.

We all knew Fresno was special from the start. He did not lie along the road in a ditch and
die. He fought to survive. Any living thing with that tenacity must be given a chance of
recovery. Carly, the finder knew right away that Fresno had the will to live, and she did not
have the pup euthanized. She decided to wait and see what other options could be found
for this poor pup.

Once the arrangements were made for transport, Carly jumped into action. She started a
fund raising tirade. She involved the media, and started organizing and huge car wash.
Fresno was sent off from California with much fan fare, lots of hugs and kisses, a film crew,
and a plea to attend the fundraiser.

This is the beginning of the miracle.

Fresno arrived in Portland, Oregon a couple of hours later. He was greeted with hugs and
kisses, a film crew, and a quick ride to the vet. He was tired, but tolerant, and so very cute.
Thanks to a channel 6 news reporter, Eric Taylor (KOIN) the Alaska / Horizon airlines
waived the shipping fee. This was so amazing, because we were going to have to raise
some serious cash, quickly. The staff at Horizon Cargo was so wonderful. They were
touched by Fresno’s story, and were very compassionate and tolerant of us plugging up
their lobby with cameras, and initial socialization of Fresno. The Oregon German Shepherd
Rescue is deeply thankful to Horizon for their generosity.

Once Fresno was tucked comfortably at the vet clinic, we went home to update those that
had been following the story. To my amazement, we had a lot of interest, and some
wonderful hits about groups that might help this pup with his surgery. We applied in
lightning speed, and we were accepted. What happened next was nothing short of
amazing. The group known as IMOM (In memory of Magic) started a donation bidding war.
It was like a Fresno e-mail a thon. People from all over started donating, challenges were
thrown out and met. The speed of the donation process was amazing. Thanks to this group
they raised enough money to back the total bill. Our financial pressure was relieved, and
we could start focusing on the healing of Fresno. We still have our work cut out for us, as
this group would want us to raise as much money as we can on our own. They will pay off
the remaining balance. The Oregon German Shepherd Rescue absolutely will never be
able to express their gratitude for the tremendous efforts of the IMOM group and its
members, and to the German Shepherd Board members, and anyone else that has
donated to this great cause.

While we are working like crazy here in Oregon, and the IMOM people are having donation
frenzy, Carly is organizing the car wash back in California. She and her team worked like
crazy washing cars, and raised over $700.00. Can you imagine? Carly, and her crew
worked in the heat, and all are sporting sunburns for the cause. We would like to recognize
Carly for her wonderful efforts, and we are so grateful that she remained dedicated to
Fresno after she handed him off. That is something we do not see often. Carly is a real
animal hero. Just imagine if all of our citizens jumped into action the way she did. Our world
would be a much kinder, and more pleasant place to live. Great work Carly, and give your
family and friends a big hug from Fresno. Hopefully she took pictures so we can see all the
fun.

I would like to offer a special thanks to Jean. She knows what a big role she played in all of
this. I personally will be forever grateful. Thank you for reaching out to a stranger.

We will update this site as often as possible to keep everyone current on this little dog’s
progress.

If we did not acknowledge a person, or organization please forgive us. This process
happened so quickly. Let us know and we will add you to the list.

Fresno was a poor little dog left to die alone, in a ditch, in pain. He is now, warm, safe, on
the road to recovery, and loved by so many. He is one lucky dog.
